The fried pickles OMG! The fried pickles - wicked crazy good! They are purely orgasmic. No, really! Nice spin on a traditional starter! The menu has something for everyone. A couple of us got the 16" Lavosh. I got the seafood one - lots of shrimp, scallops and crab, that's right crab! Totally off the charts. Paired it with a Fargo Woodchipper IPA (or two). Nice. The other Lavosh was the spinach and mushroom one. The spinach was fresh and the 'shrooms were rich, smokey, and earthy. Oh yeeesssss! Our service was just outstanding too. Loved it all. If you get here, you gotta do the Frog!

Went the first time and wanted a NY Strip (only one of two steak options) and was disappointed as it had grizzle in it, so much that I didn't eat a 1/4 of it. Waiter never asked if it was ok just "Are you finished?". So I went back and had the filet medium rare and it was outstanding! One of the best tasting steaks I've had in a long time. I hope the next visit is as good.

Was in town for a business trip and really enjoyed my meal and time at Toasted Frog. It is in an older building and not exceptionally large, I would say, cozy. You walk in and a small bar to the right with maybe 10 stools and then tables and booths throughout. I decided to sit at the bar as to not take up a table on a Saturday night. There were two bartenders on duty and both were quite friendly. They have a very nice drink menu with several of their own specialties highlighted. I cannot forget the name of the drink, was called "The Perfect" something, was bourbon, orange slice and most delicious. I started with the fried pickles, per everyone's previous reviews. They were really interesting, almost like a fried pickle egg roll as the pickles are not breaded, but however, in an egg roll like shell with havarti cheese and a sriracha dip. They were very good but the breading made them a bit heavy and is a dish better shared, which I did with other folks at the bar. I ordered the Prime Rib Melt-Shaved prime rib, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, gruyere cheese with fries. Very tasty and nice portion. Prime rib was fine, little to much cheese but bread tasty and good comfort food. Fries were terrific and food came out quickly. While waiting for my dinner, the bartender was making a Grasshopper and there was extra so he put about an inch in a glass for all 7-8 of us at the bar to try, which is always a cool thing to do. Was to full for desert but really enjoyed my meal overall. Couple of nitpicky things but overall, a really nice restaurant for a laid back meal, date etc. If I every come back to Grand Fork, I am sure I will be coming back!

This place rocks on all levels! I had the sirloin with kimchee and the wasabi mashed potatoes----I am not a big meat eater but this was hand trimmed and done a perfect medium (very tender). The light cucumber martini paired well with the Asian favors in my dish. My son and I split the flourless chocolate cake----the caramel sauce and vanilla icecream were top notch!!! The impeccable service was the icing on the cake!!

My wife and i went last Thursdsy night we had a great server, we got there late and were seated way in the back. The food was awesome and we did not wait long. Great atmosphere and food -A must do if in GF

Great food and a laid back vibe with stellar service. Our bartender was awesome. She was super knowledgeable and steered us in the right direction for beer and food. Happy to find an awesome place to have dinner in a city we'd never been to.

Update: still my favorite place in Grand Forks. While I usually eat at the bar (and a tip o' the hat to Paul, Casey and Jessie -- some of the best bartenders I've known), I ate at a booth by the bar last time as the bar was crowded. As always, great service. As always, great food with an inventive twist. As always, left feeling well cared for, well fed and great value for the money.

*** Update: I had yet another fine meal at the Frog early yesterday evening. It must be said, and I pointed it out to Amanda at the bar, that the quality of the food and the quality of the service at the Frog is very, very consistent. I don't know how many times I've eaten there in the last 8 years or so, but I have *never* had a bad meal and *never* experienced bad service. Last night, I had the pork belly appetizer that came with a delicious blueberry compote. The main course was a deliciously-prepared Tasmanian salmon with garlic-wasabi mashed potatoes and broccolini. All excellent. So, go the Frog. It excellence bar none! **** I frequent The Toasted Frog regularly and consider the Frog to be the finest in Grand Forks cuisine. From the menu to the staff and the decor to the ambiance, the Frog offers a chic, metro type of restaurant experience in the modest city of Grand Forks. The menu has recently been updated and offers such fine choices as cheesy fried pickles, scallops, and porky belly w/blueberry compote for appetizers (among others). Some of the best entrees include the daily seafood special, the lamb burger, walleye piccata, and lobster tail. The desserts are excellent and include pear pie, a luscious lemon cake, and a wonderful chocolate cake. The wine and drink selections are extensive and tasty. The restaurant includes a bar with a couple of TVs to watch the game. Seating in the back allows guests to watch the cooks in action. The Frog is simply: the best in Grand Forks.

I really wanted to like this place because locals talked it up a lot... but our whole experience was bad. We ordered a appetizer and it never came. When our food finally came 45 minutes after we ordered my wife's Elk Burger was insanely bloody. Then after we were done we sat and waited for our bill for another 20 minutes. Sorry.

Nice little place in downtown Grand Forks. I started with their margarita, which was petite, but pretty good. I had walleye with bamboo rice and broccoli rabe. The walleye was tasty, the bamboo rice was slightly more flavorful than plain rice (eh, okay), and the broccoli rabe could've been cooked a little longer but was pretty and bright. I think next time I would order something else; they have some great sounding appetizers and burgers/sandwiches. Cozy slightly upscale bar feel with random kitchsy frogs.

NY Strip was tough and chewy. Much of it had so much gristle, it was difficult to cut with a steak knife. Not a good value at all at $25. It came with garlic mashed potatoes that were loaded with hunks of raw garlic--Not sautéed or roasted, but raw--and WAY too strong. If I weren't in a hurry, I'd have sent it all back. Really disappointing, given the earlier recommendations on the steak. I wish I had gone with a less premium item that's harder to screw up, like a burger with Sweet Potato Fries.

Never had a bad meal here. They have great craft cocktails and amazing pizza. Their fried pickles are to die for! Very nice place for a dressy or casual dinner. It is a little pricy though so beware of that.

Probably the nicest restaurant in Grand Forks. My wife really likes it, so we have gone four times in the past 5-6 months. The food is really good, though expensive for Grand Forks (entrees start at around $10 and go upward of $30). But, if you're from a major metropolitan area outside of the Midwest, it's not bad at all and you'll probably think it's a bargain. So, temper your expectations. A meal for two people with drinks will run you about $45-$70 after the tip. I've had several items on the menu, including the fried pickles (weird, but delicious), the BBQ pork pizza (quite good), the chicken pesto pizza (very good!), the Angus burger with sweet potato fries (probably my favorite dish so far) and the chipotle pork open-face sandwich (not bad, but not amazing either). My wife loves the fried cheesecake dessert... you get two large pieces, so it's great to share. If you like nice dining that's different than and bit more classy than all the other chain restaurants in Grand Forks, you'll enjoy The Toasted Frog... especially if you like wine and microbrews. Just don't come in here thinking that you're gonna get a Denny's special... you pay more for quality and ambiance, even in the frozen tundra of North Dakota.

This place is delicious. Great atmosphere without being pretentious. The white chocolate martini rocked my world, and my steak was cooked perfectly. Fries were a little disappointing, but the pear pie made up for it. So yummy, I'd have eaten here every night of my trip if my co-travelers were up for it!

Once again, I'm jealous of Grand Forks. It used to be because they had The Red Pepper and Fargo didn't (we do now), but now it's because of The Toasted Frog! I'm in Grand Forks for a week (job training), so I decided to check out some of the local restaurants that they have. I went here this past Monday, and despite the fact that it was busy I was seated immediately. My server could not have been nicer or more friendly (thanks again, Whitney!). She was very informative about the menu, and she didn't once steer me wrong. I started off with their Cheesy Pickles appetizer; easily the best version of fried pickles I've ever had! For the main course I had their pasta special, which was Linguine with Chicken, Shrimp, and Andouille Sausage, all mixed into a spicy, red sauce; phenomenal! While glancing through their wine lists, I happened to notice that they carried several different kinds of port. I'm a sucker for port, so I asked Whitney if she could recommend a good one. She replied that she honestly didn't know, but immediately went to the head bartender and asked his opinion. She returned and said, "Penfolds Grandfather Fine Old Tawny Port". I ordered a glass, and also some Baked Brie to go. While I sat there, sipping on my glass of port, I lamented the fact that I would have to drive all the way back to Grand Forks to have an amazing experience like this again. WORTH IT!! (The brie was amazing, by the way)

This was the first, and most likely the only, time well been in Grand Forks, ND. We searched Yelp and chose the Toasted Frog for dinner. What a treat, and what a surprise. Our dinner was delicious. It wasn't at all what we expected for a small college town. We started with the fried pickles. They were a nice, sour pickle wrapped in a wonton wrapper with cheese. The pickle was just sour enough and a perfect offset with the remoulade that accompanied it. My wife had the fish tacos, which were served in a make-it-yourself style. The fish, I believe Mahi-Mahi, came out as one piece which was then flaked by you as needed and combined with the other delicious ingredients to make the taco. Very tasty. I had the daily special of pasta with sausage, peppers and onions in a butternut cream sauce. Very inventive and quite delicious, with just a hint of a bite. Since we didn't make a reservation we couldn't get a table, so we ate at the bar. It was our good luck to meet the owner of the restaurant and the very personable bartender, both of whom helped to make this a very special evening. If you're in Grand Forks and looking for a really good restaurant and a lively room, definitely consider The Toasted Frog. If we ever do make it back to this city, we'll definitely be repeat customers!

Very delighted with the food variety and assortment of wine and beer at this hip restaurant with a pub-like feel. Had the Gorgonzola Wood Fired pizza, and I had to force myself to stop eating it, it was very good, like a comfort food. Tried the Fried Cheesy Pickles (Pickle spears and Havarti breaded and deep fried, they were good, not great, but I would probably order them again.

I should start by saying that I am from outside of DC and had no idea what to expect. Read the reviews and seemed like a great place to try. I went with 3 co-workers and we were so pleased with the entire place! The service was prompt. The server didn't overwhelm us with continually checking up. He made sure our drinks were full and was on point with getting us our second round of drinks. 3 of us ordered the filet and 1 ordered lobster. The lobster was cooked perfectly and was delicious. 2 of us got the filet special for that night and the other the menu filet. They were cooked PERFECTLY and so delicious. I was SOOO happy! Nothing beats a perfect steak. The green beans were fresh and still had a crisp to them...which is perfect! The sweet potato fries and wasabi mashed potatoes were on point as well. The martinis...YES PLEASE! So delicious. 2 of us got the Hawaiian martini and I highly recommend it. Don't remember what the other 2 ladies got, but we were all happy with what we got. SO DELICIOUS!!! Each of our meals were right around $50. $8/martini, lobster $36, and the filet was $28 I believe. I love nothing more than a great meal at any price!

This was my second time visiting this restaurant and again it did not disappoint . The fish taco is awesome and I would highly recommend the Hawaiian cocktail . The service is great , I had a good conversation with the owner who was working the host area and bar tending . The Offical host was rocking a cool outfit and she was very friendly. The kind of place you want to go to after a long cold day!!

Best pizza and sandwich's in Grand Forks! We love going here and getting their pizza, They also have a very good selection of alcoholic drinks. This place is most certainly one of the top restaurants in Grand Forks, and we come here at least once a week. The service here is excellent and they learn very fast to remember your names and what you like! So I was very impressed with that.

Very good food,I had the pork loin special of the day. Excellent. Also had a caprese salad that had prosciutto ham in it excellent. Finished it off with a nice single malt scotch. Yes they had a fine selection. I had the Lagavulin. Laphroig 10 and 25 year old was available plus many more.

The perfect place to stop for an amazing bite to eat after a full day of travel enroute from Calgary to Toronto. Excellent wine and martini menu as well. We both had the dinner features along with the molten chocolate dessert. Would definitely return the next time driving through

I love this place. It has a great atmosphere and vibe along with great food. Our table had 2 filet mignons and an order of lavosh. The prices weren't cheap but were representative for the quality. Creative martini menu. Next time we are in NDak, we are coming back.

This is best place we ate at in Grand Forks on my first visit, dropping off our son for first year at UND Aerospace program, bad news is he is 18 so can't go into the place. Went to a couple Pizza places in town and this was the best! Wood fired hand made thin crust dough, great toppings original Style and local ....had wild Mushroom spinach (favorite) and the local Roma-Dakota. Much better than Rhombus factory crust.... One down side was walleye fingers app was way over fried. Since first time having walleye finger thought this may be 'local' way to do it , but saw other orders go by that were light golden not dark brown. Now for the totally naive northwest coaster, first time to visit the great folks of the Midwest.... Fried Pickles!!!! Just had to try! Well, interesting and tasted fine, just not sure if this should be on 'brizzare foods USA ' or is a US MIdwestern thing.... Sorry lived ,Worked and traveling Overseas most of my life...must be Time to start seeing the Good Old USA.... Could use a better draft beer selection, but that can be said of most places in the Dakota's.... Spoiled from NW craft brews.... Can't wait to go back to try other plates

When I mention going to The Toasted Frog, my friends first mention the price of going. It's not a cheap place to go and the food is definitely NOT worth the cost. But the ambiance and great service helps to make up for it. I haven't disliked anything I've ordered, but I haven't eaten anything that makes me go back on a regular basis. It's almost always busy. The last time I tried to visit, I was told there was a 90 minute wait. So, it's a popular place to visit, but we didn't feel it was worth a 90 minute wait.

Interesting place. Had the fried pickles for starters...I'm not a big "fried" person, so I can't say I loved them, but it was ok. Had a steak for dinner! Was cooked correctly and very tasty. BIG Martini menu. Fun, but lots of sweet ones, and I like more of the fresh type ingredients. But then again, I'm a cocktail snob having had some by great mixologist such as Scott Beattie. Don't know who he is look him up... ANYWAYS had the smores for dessert. Those were killer! Wine list is was not great, but then AGAIN, I'm spoiled living in the wine country... All in all for location, it was quite nice to find a place with some elaborate ingredients! Staff was EXCELLENT! Would go back to try their pizzas!

Probably one of the top two restaurants to eat at in Grand Forks. The food is great all around, but not amazing. Good service, with a very good wine and beer selection. If you are planning on going out to a romantic dinner in Grand Forks this is the place. Far better quality and value than Saunders.

I've only been here once. The fried pickles were amazing! Then I ordered the Moroccan Spiced Lamb Burger which was God awful. I can't even explain the taste it was just that bad. I'd go as far to say it was the worst tasting thing I've ever eaten. But the waitress saw I didn't like it and offered me another dish from the menu at no extra charge but I refused (I felt nauseous from the taste of the burger). But my meal was comped except for the coke I ordered which was nice of them to do.....All in all it's a really good place. Just don't get the Moroccan Spiced Lamb Burger.

Good. Very good option for grand forks. The menu is eclectic. Specials are good and the food is well executed. Service is good. Walleye and frogs leg apps are good. I like the fillet and the fish specials. Good beer selection, but the wines by the glass is wanting despite a big cellar in the middle of the place. Not as good as Sanders but it won't reach so deep into your pocket either.

This place is a very cool and trendy.. A place to sit down and eat enjoying friends & good food!!! The atmosphere remindes me of Mikes Darts Away in Burbank...We had booked a reservation for our dinner so this made things much nore desirable as far as seating because this place fills fast... From the minute we walked in the Customer Service was superb!!!!!! Here is what my meal consisted of: My Appetizer started off with Frog Legs & Cheesy Pickle Spears both which were damn good!!!!! Frog legs taste like little Chicken Legs as best described for those interested... Next the Main course- Brown Butter Mahi Mahi served with Steamed vegetables. The Mahi Mahi was to die for every bite reminded me of my trip to the Dominican Republic a few years back. Finishing things off; I ordered the baked Brie for dessert... Let's just say it was Awesome the brie was wrapped in a puff pastry with brandied apples, Carmel & pecans.... All the time drinking Sam Adams from the tap... If you ever find yourself flying around NODAK you have to make time for the Toasted Frog you will not regret it!!!!!!!!!!!

Was in Grand Forks for 10 days and ate out every day. This was by far the best restaurant I went to. Eating here I really felt like I was back in LA. I had no issue with any of the food, all was quite good. And for someone who is used to LA prices, the bill was a-ok with me. Great atmosphere, nice people, good food. The portions aren't huge but they aren't small either. 2 Must have items that are popular here are the Sweet Potato Fries (which I liked a lot even though I don't like sweet potato) and the fried pickles. You have to be 21 to enter the restaurant.

Not many vegetarian options, but they can make fire roasted pizza without meat and/or cheese. The salads are delicious and the sweet potatoes fries are my favorite. Unfortunately, I do not go here often because the wait is always very long. The service is great and the wait for food is perfect.

Two hour wait for a table, so we ate at the bar. Menu is very unique (pheasant, elk, etc.) and worth checking out! I had the pheasant while friends had fish tacos. Food was good. Pheasant was cooked well, in a pulled pork fashon. The garlic mashed potatos were lumpy and had chunks of raw garlic which could have been cooked more. Fish was grilled fantastically but the salsa was made with and over abundance of cilantro. Drinks were good and service was fantastic, staff very friendly and knew the menu well. Next time, I want to try the wood fired pizzas as they smelled and looked fantastic. Atmosphere was nice enough, very small restaurant and a bit loud... but quaint and artistic.

The food was decent, with a good selection of classic american food, sandwiches and the local favorite lavosh (a flatbread pizza, with a cracker-like crust and havarti cheese). Lavosh was very reminiscent of a pizza with a crispier crunchy crust, however the seafood lavosh was not worth it. A vegetarian lavosh would probably be a better dish, esp. to share. I got the pheasant melt, and the fried oysters as an appetizer. The cheese plate was a great dish to share and probably is the better choice on the menu. The pheasant was served open face with pulled pheasant and havarti cheese. Overall, the food was comparable to pub fare with a local twist.

Speaking of drink, the Toasted Frog is probably on the top of my list for the "classiest place to drink," in our fair city. It features an extensive wine list as well as a huge martini menu to choose from. Mind you, at $8 buck s a pop, the martini's aren't as cheep as the Karkov-filled monstrosities college students are chugging across the street, but in my eyes, it's worth it to splurge every once in a while. I started with the dark chocolate martini ($8) it had a great mix of dark chocolate notes, with lighter, sweeter coffee liquor overtones. These things are strong! Fried Cheesey Pickles ($6) It's pickles. It's cheese. It's fried. It needs no explanation. This dish is a play on contradicting flavors and textures. One one hand, the salty pickle is countered by the creamy cheese. The crisp warping is softened by the oozing interior. The sweetness of the cucumber is countered by the sauce (a mix of creamy ranch-like dressing and sirancha - an asian hot sauce.) I could hardly wait for one of these puppies to cool off before scarfing one down my mouth. To go to the Toasted Frog and not order this dish is a crime. Crabby cakes - It's been just under a month since I've been back from Hawaii and I was craving seafood. My usual policy is "if it's a land-locked state, don't eat the fish." I felt like the Toasted Frog was a safe choice to break that rule. This burger was a traditional crab cake (filled with crab, shrimp and mahi-mahi) on top a toasted bun. My first reaction was that it was a shame to eat such a great crab cake as a burger. In fact, halfway though the dish, I ate the crab cake by itself, nibbling on the bun as I chugged along. Thinking that if, correctly made, a proper crab cake contains little to no "filler" (mostly bread crumbs,) why waste all that effort by shoving it between two gigantic buns. Less snobby foodies would disagree with me. The sauce, a remoulade (much like tartar sauce,) was great! It was obscenely creamy and contained the perfect amount of bite that played well with the cake. Two lemon wedges provided a citrus note, if so desired. The sweet potato fries that came with the dish were perfect. If given a choice, go with the sweet potato. Service The service at the Toasted Frog was, arguably, the best I've had in Grand Forks. We arrived to a full waiting room but was offered a seat at the bar to wait for our table. I was promptly given a cold glass of beer and the wait was short. I felt that the waitstaff did a superior job on keeping our glasses full and our wait low. In fact, when an error came up with my drink order (to my own fault,) a member of the barstaff came over to the table and corrected it before the drink was made. Attention to detail at the Toasted Frog really shows, both in the food and in the people. Would I eat here again? You betcha. Sure, the dishes and drinks are a bit pricy... For Grand Forks standards. Eat like this anywhere in any "big city" and I'm sure you'll pay a lot more. Overall, my experience at the Toasted Frog was fantastic. I can't wait to return and sip martinis and nibble on fried pickles.

Actually a very good value for a nicer restaurant. Their pizzas are fantastic, and the lamb burger that I had was very nicely done. It had a mango salsa on it that went really well with spectacularly cooked ground lamb. We avoided the deep fried pickles, although everyone in the whole town raved about them. Definitely a good meal option in a town that is lacking a lot of variety.

The Frog is fantastic. On my most recent visit a couple nights ago, I got the seafood special, a fried fillet of Hawaiian sunfish that was really great. I've been here dozens of times though and it's always incredible. As everyone else says, pickles are a must, and the sweet potato fries are the best I've had anywhere. Steaks are always good, seafood is usually good, their soups of the day can be incredible. I've only had pasta specials a time or two but they are also great. As far as regular menu items, the pheasant melt and bbq pork melt are awesome lower dollar items. The woodfire lobster is absolutely incredible, but quite pricey. Everything in between in amazing, from burgers, to fish tacos, to lavosh, to korean ribs. It's all good. And always check on the nightly steak/seafood/pasta specials. If you hit it on the right night and are adventurous, you can take a shot at things like alligator tail, kangaroo steak, shark fillets, and more. I love the atmosphere. It can be a little loud, because it's always packed, but the level of lighting and placement of tables still has it feeling pretty intimate. I've also never had bad service, and even when it's full, food comes out in a timely fashion.

Just dropped off my son to UND from Los Angeles. Ok. This establishment is the best so far in Grand Forks. Great staff, lively vibe for a Saturday night. Excellent wine list. I had the fried pickle appetizer ....really really unusually excellent. Had the filet special of the night with a jalapeño sauce. Very good. Flowerless chocolate cake. Met a great group of local people. Can't wait to go back.

We were very impressed with this restaurant, maybe especially so for Grand Forks. Very different menu without being too pretentious and everything we had was good. Tried the Hibernating Frog Martini which was quite good. I got the Seafood Lavosh which was very good - but huge! Enough for two people. My husband had the Moroccan Spiced Lamb Burger which was very tasty! Atmosphere was nice inside and quiet, customer service was just right.

I've only been here once because my band had a day off in Grand Forks over the summer but I am soooo glad I went! My friends and I started with the fried pickles and frogs' legs. The pickles were very tasty. They came wrapped in a egg/spring roll-type wrapping with havarti cheese. Quite nice. But let's talk about the frogs' legs, shall we? If you're scared of this delicacy then you either need to get over it or move on from my review because you'll get no sympathy here. I will slaughter every Kermit I see to get these delectable drumsticks! Too good! Not greasy at all either; the cornmeal breading they used was really nice. I had the pheasant melt for an entreé and it was delicious! Big chunks of tender pheasant doused in a sweet and tangy port wine sauce. Very satisfied with my choice. I'm not sure if when the next time I stop in Grand Forks, if ever, but if it does happen I will most definitely be stopping here again.

As good as it gets, for Grand Forks. And it is still very good. I have been now about 5 times, all for different occasions. The price point is completely reasonable for how well done the food is. As a vegetarian, I am always happy to see more than one vegetarian friendly dish on their menu. The mushroom sandwich, fried pickle rolls, pheasant, steak, prime rib sandwich, and pastas have all seen their way around the table. Every time the plating is consistent, and the food is as well. The service is usually on point, every once in a while you get an odd server. I have been a fan of the interior since it opened as Lola's, and frequented it then. I am happy to see a restaurant in GF that has a good sense of taste and a modern menu. If only you were open on Sundays too!!! And I love that no on under 21 is allowed : ) Diverse cocktail menu as well.

My boyfriend has been trying to take me out here since we got together... me being the 'no~ we can't afford it' type, we always put it off. Well he came home early one day, told me to get dolled up, we were going to out to eat. We went to the TOASTED FROG. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE. We sat at the bar, and just looking at the menu ~ I was excited. We had a variety to choose from. Meats, salads, sea-food, and much more. (Not too mention ~ the menus are a contemporary, thick, well put together menu. Very attractive.) We started with some appetizers, he got the Sweet Potato Fries and I got the CHEESY FRIED PICKLES... Yummmmm. Those were amazing! I chose to get the NY Strip for my meal and WOW it was perfect, literally. The best medium rare steak I have ever had made to order. Although ~ the mashed potatoes I got to go along with it, it was toooooo garlicy. Just TOO much. :( Over all, this place was BOMB. I can't believe I waited so long just b/c of the prices!! It is for sure worth the wallet buster. Dont take my word for it, try it out! But if you're under 21 ~ you better have another option on the block. NO KIDDIES ALLOWED ~ EVEN WITH A PARENT... hmmmm, why are underagers not allowed to share this treat? Not too cool, but they must have their reasons.

This place would be fitting in most large cities, but is one-of-a-kind in Grand Forks. Good atmosphere, great food. Some of the cocktails leave room for improvement (judged on my staple manhattan).

I'm from VT and was there for work. Have gotta say, the menu selection is far better then anything I've had in VT. The price was excellent, and I wish I had gone there all 4 days I was in town. Not sure if I'll ever be back there, but I highly recommend this place.

Well, as others have mentioned..... you MUST get the pickle appetizer. If you like dill pickles you will love the deep fried concoction that comes complete with Havarti cheese inside. I will admit, I was a little skeptical of a cheese/pickle combination, but these are delicious!! The staff has been super attentive and nice the few times I have been here. The lavosh here are not like a sandwich, they are a giant flat approximate 16 inch diameter sauceless pizza. They are pretty good, but don't expect the sandwich form they come in at other places. Last time I went I had the open face tomato & mozzarella sandwich, which was a little soggy... so, I think next time I will go back to the lavosh. They make a pretty good dirty martini and have an adequate beer selection. Try their specialty martinis, they have a number of creative mixes. So far , this is one of my favorite places to grab food and drinks in GF.

We had dinner on St Patrick's day here. In contrast to the neighboring college bar next door this place has a nice feel to it. I calm place to have a nice meal with the distraction of only one TV. We ordered the fried pickles, seafood lavosh and the corned beef and cabbage special. The fried pickles were a delicious new experience that left me wanting more. Crispy outside, gooey cheese on the inside and finally the crispy crunch of a dill pickle spear. Very good. The seafood lavosh was also very nice. A good combination of flavors. Though the seafood was bordering on overcooked it didn't spoil the overall dish. My wife had the corned beef and cabbage. Though I'm sure this is only on the menu once a year it was executed very well. The beef was tender and delicious and not fatty like corned beef can sometimes be. All and all I nice dinner and next time we're in town I'm sure we'll go back if only for some fried pickles and a martini.

Eh - mediocre. Big seller is fried cheesy pickles. Pricing and service is ok. I got the portabella mushroom sandwich but the cheapo bread it was on was soggy and fell apart quickly - kinda ruined what could have been a pretty good meal.

We first made it here soon after they opened after a recommendation from the hotel staff. We were pleased with both the food, and the wine selection. We made it back again recently and found the place to be almost as good as we remembered it, all in all a good restaurant.

I tried the pizza here as a comparison to Rhombus Guys down the road, and found it just slightly more in alignment with what I was looking for--nothing revolutionary, but good quality and properly flavorful. The service was decent, and there was a nice feel to the place; the fried cheesecake dessert pushed it into the four-star realm for me.

When I travel I try to stay away from the chains and look for the flavor of a community. The Toasted Frog is one of only a couple of really exceptional upscale restaurants in Grand Forks. I had one of the specials of the night, Hawaiian sea bass, oven roasted with a delicious carrot, coconut, curry sauce and served with garlic wasabi mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts sliced in halves that had just the right amount of fried char on them. I was concerned it might be too spicy with the curry and wasabi content but chef Scott Franz had the perfect combination of spice, flavor, and cream to blend with the superbly prepared fish and potatoes. Jessie, my server, described each dish accurately and led me to the perfect dessert with a turtle cheesecake that was wrapped and fried and presented with hazelnut chocolate and carmel drizzled over everything. Even the coffee was the perfect choice to complement the whole meal. It was just their normal brew but tasted fresh and had that nice strong coffee flavor. Jessie, of course, kept it hot and was always available whenever I had questions. This is a great little downtown neighborhood restaurant and bar and it appeared locals were greeted often. Not your cheap night out but worth every penny. I'll be looking for Chef Franz on the food channel...it was that good!

An odd name for a great place. Unfortunately you can only get frogs legs as an appitizer (2 legs) but a double order would suffice for a meal. A great wine selection and wonderful and warm inviting atmosphere. Great service but once it gets jumping service may suffer due to the crowd. A nice menu for a restaurant so far north in the US. I don't think there is a comparable eating establishment in Grand Forks.

    (3)
  • Dan C.

I'm from VT and was there for work. Have gotta say, the menu selection is far better then anything I've had in VT. The price was excellent, and I wish I had gone there all 4 days I was in town. Not sure if I'll ever be back there, but I highly recommend this place.

I love the food here because it is tasty. I hate that it is often difficult to get in without a reservation. This, this makes me sad.

Eh - mediocre. Big seller is fried cheesy pickles. Pricing and service is ok. I got the portabella mushroom sandwich but the cheapo bread it was on was soggy and fell apart quickly - kinda ruined what could have been a pretty good meal.

FYI: As friends have pointed out, the Frog is not 'kid friendly'... nobody under 21 will be let in, even if with parents. This can be good or bad, depending on how you look at it...
